We acted swiftly and safeguarded Ireland against the threat of Foot and Mouth Disease.

We have followed a coherent and strategic approach to Agriculture and have a clear vision for the sector through the Agri-Food 2010 Action plan.

We have introduced a wide range of measures to help young farmers with the active support of the Minister for Finance.

We have made great strides in the timely delivery of payments to farmers who receive over €1 billion annually - 57% increase.

We are broadening the scope of agricultural education substantially.

The National Development Plan provides financial backing of €8.5 billion for REPS, the Early Retirement Scheme, the Compensatory Allowances in Disadvantaged areas, the Leader Programmes etc.
